Aspire One Gaming: Star Wars Galaxies

There was a request on the aspireoneuser forums for some idea of what to expect from SWG. I used to have an account back in the day, but then they nerfed the classes. So I found myself spending 6 hours last night downloading this game to test it out.

Here are the required specs:

Microsoft DirectX 9.0 is included on this CD. NOTE: DirectX may require the "latest" updates for your operating system. This may also include the latest drivers for your particular motherboard, sound and video hardware.

Installation requires 2.0 GB of free hard drive space. It is recommended that you have at least an additional 500 MB of free space available after installing the game for the Windows swap/page file and additional patch downloads.

ATI Radeon 7200/7500
ATI Radeon 8500/9000

If they hadn't destroyed the very well designed character leveling system, I would still be addicted to this game. As it was, I found myself trying to hit buttons that were no longer mapped the way they used to be. Ah, oh well.

The game itself is playable..... mucho lag in cities, dropping me down in the 5-10 FPS range. Im sure accessing the auctions would have been hell. But in the game's defense, I didn't bother to drop the graphics settings, so the lag can be partially blamed on maxed graphics.

All in all, I'd say it is playable for house decorating, missions, and far outside grinding.... If you want to go into town, be prepared to wait.
